On Wednesday, March 19, from 9am-noon, Winston-Salem residents are encouraged to take part in Operation Medicine Drop in the parking lot of the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum located at 2825 University Parkway.
Operation Medicine Drop will be accepting any and all unused prescription or over-the-counter drugs, and all drops offs are done anonymously. Do not drop off used needles or any other bio hazardous material.
The Winston-Salem Police Department along with the Northwest Piedmont Chapter of Safe Kids NC and the Yadkin Riverkeeper, are sponsoring this event to keep the people of Winston-Salem safe. Leaving unused drugs around a house can lead to accidental poisonings and/or drug abuse.
It is also a way to dispose of unwanted drugs in a safe, clean manner. A lot of people flush drugs down the toilet when they are no longer needed, and that could create safety hazards for the water supply.
Operation Medicine Drop is being held as part of Forsyth Creek Week, March 15-22. Clemmons and Kernersville will also hold Operation Medicine Drops during Forsyth Creek Week.
Clemmons: March 17, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Fire Station 14, 5931 James Street.
Kernersville: March 21, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at CVS, 1398 Union Cross Road.
